Symbols The flag of Barranquilla is composed of three concentric rectangles of red, yellow, and green colors with an eight-pointed silver star in the center. The red symbolizes the blood of the patriots, the yellow represents the sun of freedom, and the green represents the hope for a dignified and democratic homeland. The star represents the eight confederated provinces that originally formed the Free State of Cartagena. The Coat of Arms shows a river that runs through the landscape, where two boats sail protected by two cannons, and the flag at the foot of which a patriot soldier stands guard. The upper part of the shield is crowned with a motto that says "Reward for Patriotism". The shield represents the heroic participation of the Barranquilla patriots in the defense of independent Cartagena. |
